Common Extension V1: Privacy made easy
Blockchain’s transparency is one of its greatest strengths, but this also creates some significant challenges. Transparency ensures trust and accountability, but it also exposes user transactions to traceability.
This is why many users turn to centralized exchanges or fragmented privacy pools to navigate these hurdles—although these solutions often come with inefficiencies, custodial risks, and limited interoperability.
Privacy, however, should enhance the blockchain experience—not complicate it.
Common Extension V1 aims to deliver on this by making privacy easy and something that only enhances your on-chain experience. It’s as simple as closing your blinds or switching on your VPN—complex technical barriers are non-existent.
Now, after the successful release of Shielder Demo on testnet, Common Extension V1 is bringing shielding to the Aleph Zero EVM Mainnet. With Common Extension V1, creating private accounts and shielding your AZERO tokens is just one click away—you can just plug into seamless privacy with no need for complicated and costly workarounds. When you shield AZERO tokens, they are automatically moved into a privacy pool with other users’ tokens, effectively breaking any traceability.
What makes Common Extension V1 truly unique is its one-click shielding (with subsecond performance on newer devices), which harnesses the power of zkOS—the fastest interchain privacy hub. Common Extension V1 operates as a side panel in your browser, which means that the transaction window doesn’t have to disappear when you’re not using it–it’s always on hand.
In subsequent releases, this will allow for seamless interaction with dApps without pop-ups or interruptions. It’s important to note that Common Extension V1 is just the first step towards our bigger vision for an all-in-one app that is your gateway to private DeFi.
Here’s what you can take advantage of today with Common Extension V1:
- Private account: Create private, shielded account on Aleph Zero EVM Mainnet instantly;
- Token shielding: Rapidly secure your AZERO tokens in privacy pools (sub-second ZK proof generations) and your transactions and balances will remain protected;
- Private-to-public sending: The sender remains private—what is visible on-chain is the amount transferred and the receiver account (private-to-private transactions will be available with subsequent iterations);
- Sidepanel interface: Browse the web while keeping the extension open (in coming releases, you’ll be able to enjoy an enhanced UX with dApp connections).
Pushing the future of private DeFi with Common
We’re excited to share a glimpse of what’s ahead for Common in the coming months. Our development team is actively working on the first version of the Common Mobile, starting with WASM, followed up by EVM support.
From there, we’ll move toward enabling private transactions and shielding across EVM chains, with built-in bridges removing the need for using external interfaces. As we progress through the year, our roadmap includes powerful new features like smart yield, swaps, card payments with IBAN, and scam protection—all designed to make Common more versatile and secure.
While the mobile version is our key focus now, we’re also continuing to enhance the Common Extension, with plans to introduce ERC20 token support and DApp connection later next year. We’re committed to delivering these features with precision and care, so we’ll keep you updated on their progress every step of the way. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to expand the Common ecosystem!
Add Common Extension V1 and start testing it today
As this initial release is just the beginning of Common and its journey to becoming your privacy-enabled hub for all things DeFi, there are some limits on functionality. It’s important to note that while the app has been audited internally by Cardinal Cryptography, the external audit is still pending, so please proceed with caution.
This first release is a safemode rollout with shielding limits of 100 AZERO, which will be lifted once the external audit is concluded and the anonymity revoking function is activated.
The community will play a critical role here, which is why we’re taking an open and collaborative approach—inviting everyone to test the extension, and give feedback. We wanted to thank all the early testers for trying the Shielder Demo and sharing their reports with us from testnet. If you’ve submitted a testing report from the Shielding Demoemo, check the Aleph Zero EVMwallet address that you’ve provided—there’s a special airdrop gift waiting for you—so you can further enjoy testing these features on Mainnet.
Your feedback is essential, so please share it on feedback.common.fi—and join us in shaping the future of private DeFi on Common.
