For the past few weeks, the DeFi community and waitlisted users have been interacting with the Common Web App on testne. Now, it’s not testnet anymore–Common is finally live on Mainnet in the Aleph Zero EVM and Arbitrum!

ICYMI: What is the Common Web App?
The Common Web App is the intuitive interface for Aleph Zero’s Shielder Network. It enables private transactions across multiple chains so users can protect their onchain activity without relying on centralized exchanges or mixers.
At the core of the experience is “shielding.” This simple but game-changing feature allows users to deposit tokens into a shielded pool. This way, they break the link between their public wallet activity and future transactions.
How can I use the Common Web App?
Using the Common Web App is simple. If you’ve used Common’s Shielder feature, you’ll find a familiar UX.
- After navigating to the Web App, you can connect your wallet of choice. Common supports the wallets you already use.
- Then you will be presented with a set of options for assets you can shield. On Aleph Zero EVM, that is AZERO, ETH, USDC, USDT. On Arbitrum One, ARB, ETH, USDT, and USDC.
- Once shielded, your assets are in a unique shielded pool. You can then withdraw them to another address without your trace being found on-chain–or stay in the pool, you’re already private there!
So far, we have tested Common Web App to work with:
- Metamask
- Ledger (via Metamask)
- Coinbase Wallet
- Talisman
- Rabby / Rabby Mobile
- Nova
- Brave
Besides taking these steps, you can also maximize your privacy with some best practices:
- Withdraw to a fresh address per transaction
- Use rounded amounts (e.g. 10.00 or 50.00 USDT)
- Space your deposits and withdrawals randomly over time
These steps reduce the chance of address linking by analysis or pattern detection. Check out this demo to see how you can do it yourself.
The Common timeline
The Common Web App is only the latest step in a journey to build the interface for a privacy layer of web3.
- First we started with the Common Extension V1, which underwent a successful test phase and proved the shielding concept behind the Common Web App.
- We continued to build on the momentum by launching an official Web App that introduces shielding formally with a UX that supports your wallets of choice, starting with whitelisted assets on Arbitrum One and Aleph Zero EVM. This ensures you can use web3 privately in your everyday transactions.
- In the near future, Common will continue to execute on this roadmap towards true privacy with a mobile app and by supporting more networks, assets, and introducing features that will reward you for staying private.
