Why could Common only be built on Aleph Zero?

Feb 19, 2025

Infrastructure matters a lot in web3. In fact, it determines the kinds of features that can or cannot be built on such innovative applications as Common.

But, this is just the beginning of what’s in store for Common, as a cursory look at the 2025 roadmap will show

Common wouldn’t be that easy to use without Aleph Zero. It wouldn’t be that private. So let’s see what’s so unique about it!

Building the core of Common. Why Aleph Zero’s zkOS?

The groundwork for all of Common’s unique features comes from being built with Aleph Zero’s zkOS, which is a framework for interchain privacy that enables developers to create privacy-enhanced, secure, and user-friendly applications.

On Aleph Zero L1, Common has already showcased how fast and cost-effective blockchain transactions can be–and users loved it, ramping up the TVL to over $4 million in just a week after launching the AMM DEX on Mainnet.

Aleph Zero EVM – seamless on-chain privacy for more users

Before privacy can become popular in crypto, it needs to be just as easy to use as any other app. This is what we’re doing in Common–engraving privacy at the core of the product, as a default–without breaking the user experience. Or––as we like to think––even enhancing it.

Aleph Zero EVM is a special-purpose Ethereum layer 2 rollup specialized in offering privacy through the use of ZK Proofs. It integrates seamlessly with the broad Ethereum ecosystem to access deeper liquidity and become accessible for more users. Not only that–Aleph Zero’s interchain privacy capabilities allow Common to seamlessly connect to other chains while maintaining user privacy.

The goal is simple here: To build a privacy-enhancing system that is the easiest to use and offers unique features—working in unison with third-party apps and enhancing them with additional levels of security for their users through privacy. Aleph Zero’s key infrastructure elements play a critical role in achieving this goal.

Common is here to let you stay private just by using it with whatever other apps you’d might want to use. It also come with its unique set of features to let you grow your holdings effortlessly, too. And that’s all powered by Aleph Zero.

Right now, Common is making token transfers and managing assets across multiple chains simple and private, so users can focus on interacting—while not having to worry about who’s watching. Common Extension V1 is already out as an EVM-compatible wallet with private accounts, token shielding, and private-to-public transactions.

Look out for the next release in Spring 2025, as we complete the Shielder privacy pool audit, release Common Mobile App, support ERC20 token shielding, and introduce yield generation features.
